InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu

The InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu is perfectly situated at the very gateway to Provence; a region that offers a host of activities that allows all to discover the very essence of all that makes Provence so very special.

Perched atop the Panier hill, in what is the oldest district in Marseilles, the hotel is right beside the world-famous Vieux-Port, the cultural and historic centre of France’s second largest city.

InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu is housed in a magnificent XVIIIth century landmark: a historic, classified monument that is the former Hotel Dieu.

Its majestic staircases and vaulted passageways, its French gardens and terraces bear witness to its illustrious history. Everything in the hotel has been designed with you in mind. From the very first moment you will find yourself at home in this unique place so steeped in history.

The hotel has 172 rooms and 22 suites in all, 72 with a view of the Vieux-Port and 33 with private terrace.

Entrusted to the expertise of Jean-Philippe Nuel, a world reference in interior design, the rooms are decorated in a style that exalts the history and the ethos of the building.

Sip your favourite cocktails in the chic contemporary setting of “The Capian” bar, either comfortably installed in the lounge or on the delightful terrace overlooking the Vieux-Port. Discover the welcoming, intimate atmosphere here, where music, artists and high society mingle and blend. Attractively decorated in a spirit of brasserie chic, the cuisine in “Les Fenêtres” is unmistakably Mediterranean, with a selection of dishes that incorporate all the freshness of Provence. “Alcyone” nourishes not just your palate but also provides a feast for the eyes with breathtaking views of the Vieux-Port. Alcyone is a Michelin Star awarded restaurant thanks to our talented Chef Lionel Levy.

Regenerate and renew yourself at the Spa by Clarins in the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu! The Spa offers a range of beauty care and cosmetic treatments faithful to the fundamental principles of Clarins infrastructure. The emphasis here is on luminous, pure and youthful skin.

The 1 000 m2 m2 conference centre offers multiple choice with its capacity to adapt its meeting space to guests’ requirements:meetings, reunions, exhibitions, or more intimate occasions such as weddings, birthdays, concerts…

Added to all of this is the hotel’s cultural centre that provides a perfect setting for the ancient architectural heritage.

The art of truly Mediterranean cuisine

Lionel Levy, recognised as being at the forefront of modern and creative cuisine in Marseille, learned his craft alongside world-renowned chefs such as Éric Fréchon and Alain Ducasse. A passionate lover of the city, he settled in Marseille 13 years ago where he gained complete mastery of the art of cooking. His talent was recognised by his peers when he was awarded his first Michelin star in 2005. He also recently received a Michelin star for the gourmet restaurant Alcyone, located inside the hotel InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu. Among the many specialities which have helped to establish his impressive reputation is his famous ‘milkshake bouillabaisse’.
“I’m delighted, because today I can cook with a wide variety of flavours and a large range of produce, which enables me to reach my full potential in my job. Customers can choose between the bar “Le Capian”, the brasserie “Les Fenêtres”, and the gourmet restaurant “Alcyone”. Customers trust me, as do the hotel management, which gives me free reign.”

Taking responsibility for cuisine at the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu is a daily challenge for this passionate chef and his team.

Inventive, curious and constantly changing, his gourmet cuisine pays homage to regional products. With his team of 50 staff, he aims to “put processes in place that will increase consistency and enable his team to evolve and achieve increasingly high standards”. Lionel Levy enjoys working with his four talented sous-chefs: Baptiste Copeaux, Paul Langlère, Mathieu Charrois and Frédéric Delpeuch, as well as a pastry chef - Florian Poette.

The chef is uncompromising on the selection of his products. Select fish from the Old Port’s catch of the day, vegetables harvested by ethically-minded producers, and meats from respected farmers allow you to discover the very best of Mediterranean cuisine.

Lionel Levy likes to take on several challenges at once when it comes to promoting his business. Since January 2012, he has been an active Vice President of the association Gourméditerranée alongside Gérard Passédat (President) and Guillaume Sourrieu (Treasurer). This association brings together some 40 chefs, from Menton to Marseille, who are passionate about promoting and conserving authentic flavours both in Marseille and Provence, which is rich in old traditions which are not yet well known. His record includes organising the first Gourméditerranée culinary festival as part of the Marseille International Fair in 2012.
